Shire President Jenny Mountford has officially announced her resignation after a total of five years of service as a Councillor, including the last two and a half years as Shire President. Her tenure was marked by significant contributions to community engagement, development initiatives, and partnerships that benefitted local residents.

Throughout her time on the council, Jenny initiated the "Jenny on the Bench" program, which encouraged community members to engage directly with council representatives. This initiative promoted open communication, allowing residents to voice their concerns and suggestions effectively, while enhancing the transparency of local governance.

Jenny indicated that one of the highlights of her tenure was the opening of the refurbished Bridgetown Railway Station, which now serves as the Visitor Centre for the Shire. This project not only preserved a significant piece of local heritage but also aimed to boost tourism and support local businesses by providing essential information to visitors.

As President, she also focused on improving the relationship between the Shire and Talison Lithium mining, prioritizing collaborative discussions that addressed economic development while prioritizing community concerns. This partnership has facilitated an improved balance between local interests and the benefits of the mining operation.

Jenny played a crucial role in establishing the Partnering for the Future funding agreement between Talison and the Shire, which has led to various revitalization projects across Bridgetown and Greenbushes. This agreement has secured essential funding for infrastructure improvements and community services, enhancing the overall quality of life for residents.

Her commitment to sustainability was evident in her collaboration with the Warren Blackwood Alliance of Councils, where she advocated for policies addressing climate change and promoting eco-friendly practices within the region.

When asked about her tenure as Councillor and President Jenny said “Being in service to the community is one of the most rewarding things we can do as humans. I have learnt so much from my time on Council and enjoyed so many meaningful conversations with people who truly care about the place they live in and the people they share it with. We are truly lucky to live where we do.”

As she steps down, Jenny Mountford’s contributions to the Shire of Bridgetown-Greenbushes will be recognized as a vital part of her legacy. The council is committed to transitioning smoothly to new leadership that will continue to build on the progress made during her term.
