At a Special Meeting of Council held on Tuesday, 7 January 2025, Cr Tracy Lansdell was unanimously elected as Shire President.

Having called North Greenbushes home for the past 19 years, Tracy and her husband Mark have raised their two children on their acreage property while contributing to the local community in countless ways. With a professional background spanning nearly three decades in the health sector - 22 of those years as a naturopath - Tracy is also a successful small business owner.

"I believe the skills I’ve honed in my profession, such as leadership, active listening, effective communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving, are directly transferable to my role as Shire President," said Tracy. "Collaboration is key, and I’m committed to working as part of a team to achieve the best outcomes for our community."

Tracy emphasized that her approach to the presidency will be guided by values such as kindness, inclusiveness, empathy, positivity, and hard work. Her immediate focus is on a comprehensive review of the Shire’s strategic directions, an initiative that will involve engaging extensively with the community.

"In the coming weeks, Council and staff will host community sessions to better understand the concerns, challenges, and opportunities our stakeholders see," she explained. "I’m genuinely excited to hear from everyone and ensure these insights shape our priorities moving forward."

An ongoing commitment to improving communication with the community is another key focus for Tracy. "Clear and open communication is essential," she said. "We’ll continue to explore and expand ways to connect with our residents and keep them informed."

A passionate advocate for the region, Tracy described the Shire as "one of the most beautiful parts of the state." She added, "Not only are we geographically the centre of the South West, but as our Shire slogan states, we truly are its heart and soul. Our diversity in experiences, work, and lifestyle is something I cherish deeply."

Tracy expressed her gratitude to her fellow Councillors for their support and encouragement. "It’s a privilege to be elected Shire President," she said. "While this term is a shorter one ahead of the next election, I am eager to continue serving this incredible community, working closely with my council colleagues, stakeholders, and the professional team within the Shire."
