On 26 February we shared a news article advising of the outcome of the Council review of our ward boundaries and the system of elected member representation. You can view that article here
In that article we advised that Council had decided to submit a proposal to the Local Government Advisory Board (under Sections 2.2 and 2.18 and Schedule 2.2 of the Local Government Act) seeking the elimination of wards.
This would see the elimination of the current North and South Wards with Councillors in future being elected for the whole of the Shire district.
Council’s proposal has now been approved and the discontinuance of the current ward system was officially gazetted on 13 April 2021. You can view a copy of the relevant Government Gazette here
The current North and South Wards will remain until the day of the next ordinary Local Government election which is Saturday 16 October 2021. We will share more information in future news articles on how you can nominate to be a Shire Councillor.
The gazetted change will mean that the process leading up to the next election will see candidates nominate to represent the whole of the Shire district and not a specific ward.
