The Shire of Bridgetown-Greenbushes (Shire) and Talison Lithium Pty Ltd (Talison), are excited to share the “Partnering for the Future 2024” program. This initiative marks a significant investment into the future of our communities, with Talison committing $2.254 million towards enhancing our local infrastructure, recreational facilities, and community spaces.
This year’s program builds upon the successful foundations laid in 2023, with both parties renewing their commitment to the transformative Greenbushes Transformation Plan. This plan focuses on enriching public amenities, parks, sporting facilities, footpaths, roads, and drainage systems, ensuring our community is not only beautiful but also functional and accessible for all.
A highlight of this year’s partnership is the innovative energy sustainability project that aims to reduce our carbon footprint. The project will see the installation of solar panels and batteries on key civic buildings throughout Bridgetown, a testament to our shared commitment to a sustainable future.
Further enhancing our community’s vibrancy, Talison’s investment will also support the installation of air conditioning and state-of-the-art audio-visual equipment in the Bridgetown Town Hall. This upgrade will transform the hall into a hub for community gatherings, arts, and cultural events. Additionally, the funding will breathe new life into the Bridgetown Visitor Centre at the beautifully restored Bridgetown Railway Station, making it a welcoming and interesting venue for visitors and locals alike.
Shire President Jenny Mountford expressed her gratitude, stating, “Council is very happy to see the strong working relationship with Talison Lithium continue to develop,” said Ms Mountford. “Their contribution to major projects within our Shire is welcomed and appreciated by our organization and the community at large.”
Shire Chief Executive Officer Nicole Gibbs echoed this sentiment, “The Shire extends its genuine gratitude for the invaluable financial support provided by Talison. Through their generous contribution, our community has witnessed remarkable enhancements to our assets and infrastructure, rendering them more robust and resilient than ever before.”
Craig Dawson, Talison General Manager – Operations, emphasised Talison’s dedication to responsible and sustainable operations that enrich the communities they serve “Talison is committed to operating in a responsible and sustainable manner and critical to this commitment is working with the communities surrounding our Greenbushes Lithium Operation,”
The 2024 Partnering for the Future program includes a diverse range of projects aimed at enhancing the quality of life for residents and visitors alike. From the continuation of the Greenbushes Drainage Plan to the reconstruction of streets and footpaths, from the creation of engaging youth spaces to the installation of renewable energy solutions, this partnership is set to transform our community landscape.
Projects approved for 2024 are:
- continuation of the Greenbushes Drainage Plan (including test drilling);

- installation of approximately one (1) kilometre of kerbing in the town area;
- Jephson Street Streetscape Plan – design for improvement to drainage and tree health between Stanifer and Collins Streets;

Part of the funding will be allocated to Project Management, ensuring that the Shire possesses the necessary capacity and resources to successfully implement the Partnering for the Future 2024 initiatives.
