Lines and Layers: The Gordon Holdsworth Lithograph Collection at Goorbilyup Gallery
The Goorbilyup Gallery, located at the Bridgetown-Greenbushes Visitor Centre, is proud to present "Lines and Layers: The Gordon Holdsworth Lithograph Collection", an extraordinary exhibition running from Wednesday, September 4th, through to the end of October. This exhibition offers a rare opportunity to explore the artistic legacy of Gordon Holdsworth, a master of many arts and a prominent figure in the Arts movement of the first half of the 20th Century.
Gordon Holdsworth (1884-1965) was an artist of remarkable versatility, with talents spanning painting, etching, metalsmithing, and sculpting. Born in England and later settling in Bridgetown, Holdsworth preferred the quiet of the countryside over city life, drawing inspiration from the surrounding forests. His work, deeply rooted in the Arts and Crafts tradition, has left an indelible mark on the region, with creations that can still be seen in numerous Western Australian churches and public spaces.
The Shire of Bridgetown-Greenbushes is honoured to exhibit the largest known collection of Holdsworth’s lithographic prints, generously donated by the Mildenhall/Partridges Family into the Shire of Bridgetown-Greenbushes Art Collection. This treasure trove of limited-edition lithographic prints, showcases the depth and versatility of Holdsworth’s work, offering visitors a unique glimpse into the life and artistry of a man once described as "a complete artistic personality of a vanishing era."
"Lines and Layers" is a must-see for anyone interested in the arts, local history, or the rich cultural heritage of the Southern Forests and Valleys region. This exhibition not only celebrates Holdsworth's remarkable artistic achievements, it provides a window into the natural beauty and essence of the world that inspired him.
